Einerseits geht der Name auf die fatale Wirkung zurück, die die Mischung aus Eierlikör und Rum schon nach wenigen Minuten hat.

Andererseits spielt der Name auch auf die Kalorien an, denn Bombardino ist aufgrund der Zutaten, wie Eier, Zucker, Sahne und Alkohol eine Kalorienbombe im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes und in Kombination mit Kaffee eine Art postmoderner Energy-Drink.
